The Advanced Bobath Course in Barcelona - Day 4
The alarm was needed in the morning and again (?) a rainy
day in Barcelona. And because it was Saturday you couldn’t buy an umbrella
before 9 a.m. On the way to clinic I saw some football players in "football station". Slightly wet feeling when I got to a clinic but what comes for
today – it was excellent. I wanted to come here and learn lots of specifity of
assessment and handling and today we did that a lot.
First in the morning we practiced how to get from sitting to
standing and back sitting. There was lots of talk about lateral shifting and
tilting and anterior-posterior tilting when you should get the patient on his/her legs or posterior tilt when you
want to get the knees flexed and back to sitting. I had a chance to practice
this with Elena, who is also a Basic Course Instructor.
In the afternoon we facilitated our coursemates from standing to the floor. And next Lynne showed us something she likes to do a lot with her patients on the floor in supine. It was a nice coincidence how all my advanced courses (AC) get together in one practice. In the first AC we learned how to use neckstanding to release the stiffness from the trunk. In the second AC we learned how to use neurodynamics to release tension controlaterally. Today Lynne teached us how to use neckstanding to find selective movement to thorax and pelvis in neckstanding, and in this posture double leg SLR (straight leg raise) to get the patient standing in both legs. And she took it a bit longer though and showed how to practice selectively from sitting to standing and back to sitting in this neckstanding posture. It was impressive!
In the evening we had dinner together with Lynne and other
students and after that prepairing for the last day.
Buenas noches…
